Use stimulus check to stock up on food or buy silver?

I realize everyone's talking about soaring food prices right now, and while I haven't revisited a Wal-mart price list of 100 or so items I commonly buy (primarily food, heavy on canned goods but other items, plus necessities from toothpaste to duct tape--Sam's Club is about to get my membership application) since I first put the list together about three months ago, I'm wondering if I should sink larger amounts of money right now, such as my stimulus check, into getting more silver while it's still cheap before the price is expected to at least post 50 percent gains by the end of the year, listening to a lot of commentators, or if I should use my share of the government's free money to go ahead and load up on food. I'm a single guy with no kids and no human dependents, and I live on next to no money anyway even though I'm making about $40K a year. I typically have about $200 to spare every two weeks that I've been using to buy up mostly junk silver coins. I budget about $200 for food every two weeks and eat out very little. What I'm wondering is if I should start moving more of my junk silver funds to food storage, or if I should keep on spending about twice as much on silver right now as I am on food for long-term storage. I eat and live very simply and every two weeks buy about a month's worth of food, and I've just been building up a surplus.

I guess the real issue is whether the price of silver could be appreciating faster than the overall inflation rate for food. If any of the rest of you are mulling similar situations in your own life, I'd appreciate any advice and personal experiences you'd like to share.

Well, maybe this thread is something I should consider first:

I've already got a substantial hoard of silver bullion and junk silver coins, but I guess you can't eat coins WTSHTF.

Not to say that I know anything special or that my ideas are "invest-able", but....

I don't think I'll be EXPECTING, or even WISHING my silver goes up 50% by year end. How about 50% in the next 3 yrs?

That said, how long can you last on savings?

How many months worth of food do you have now?

And what possibility is there that you would lose your job if the economy gets a lot worse?

I like to have enough food and fuel to last 6 months, and enough money (as in currency and bank) to last 2 or 3 years, and beyond that comes investments like bullion. I guess you need to think thru your own situation.
